The FBI has asked Apple to create a custom version of their iOS software to make it possible for them to brute force the passcode of an iPhone. Apple claims the request is a step too far and personal privacy is at stake. If Apple is able to, should they unlock the iPhone for the FBI?

The New York Times has interviewed Apple engineers who work on mobile products and security and found that some are refusing to work on iOS development in case it leads to enrolment in the FBI’s request. They are also prepared to quit their jobs, to uphold their belief that the iOS security they created should not be compromised.

BTW current state is: FBI could crack the particular iPhone version without the help of Apple. They seem to have used an exploit particularly for this device & iOS version. They probably bought it from some hackers.

And they now help other agencies to break into other iPhones.
